Burkina Faso: The meteoric rise of President Ibrahim Traoré in just two years has transformed Faso

Since President Ibrahim Traoré assumed power, he has rapidly transformed Burkina Faso’s security landscape, which was once plagued by deadly terrorist attacks. Between 2016 and 2022, over 13,000 Burkinabe lost their lives, and vast areas of the country were inaccessible.

However, under Captain Traoré’s leadership, the military underwent significant reforms, including the acquisition of advanced equipment and intensive training for the Security and Defense Forces, as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

This approach has yielded positive results, allowing nearly 192,000 internally displaced persons to return to their home villages by August 31, 2023.

On the diplomatic front, President Ibrahim Traoré has strengthened Burkina Faso’s standing on the international stage.

His leadership has led to the formation of strategic alliances with countries like Russia, Iran, and Turkey, while severing certain colonial-era agreements with France to solidify national sovereignty.

Additionally, Burkina Faso has played a pivotal role in establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), forging stronger cooperation with Mali and Niger.

Economically, Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s government has introduced major initiatives to revitalize the national economy, such as the establishment of a tomato processing plant in Bobo-Dioulasso and the creation of a company specializing in military uniforms.

Projects like the Presidential Initiative for Community Development and Agriculture have also been launched, aiming to boost agricultural production and generate wealth for the Burkinabe people.

Moreover, President Traoré has undertaken critical reforms to improve the healthcare system, including the modernization of medical facilities and the introduction of mobile clinics to bring healthcare services closer to the population.

In terms of infrastructure, significant progress has been made in building roads, schools, and public administration facilities. Simultaneously, a relentless fight against corruption and absenteeism has been initiated to clean up public administration and promote the country’s development.
