Football/PL: Arsenal await injury update on Captain Martin Odegaard after Norway setback

Arsenal fans are holding their breath after midfielder Martin Odegaard suffered an injury while on international duty with Norway. The 25-year-old was forced off in the 67th minute during Norway’s 2-1 victory over Austria in the UEFA Nations League on Monday night.

Initial reports suggest that Odegaard may have sustained an ankle sprain, according to Sky Sports.

The playmaker returned to London on Tuesday, using crutches as he boarded the plane, to undergo further medical tests.

Arsenal will be anxiously awaiting the results, with their captain’s availability for Sunday’s crucial North London derby against Tottenham now in serious doubt.

Odegaard’s potential absence could be a major blow for Mikel Arteta’s side as they prepare for the highly anticipated derby.

The injury also compounds Arteta’s concerns, with Italian full-back Ricardo Calafiori also suffering an ankle injury while representing Italy.

As a result, Arteta’s international break has been far from ideal, as he faces the prospect of fielding a depleted squad for one of Arsenal’s biggest fixtures of the season.

More information regarding Odegaard’s condition is expected in the coming days, but Arsenal supporters will be hoping for good news ahead of the weekend showdown.
