Niger: Launch of the construction of social housing at a total cost of FCFA 1.5 billion
On Friday, September 13, 2024, Niger marked a significant milestone with the official launch of a project to build 155 affordable housing units. This large-scale initiative, backed by a 1.5 billion FCFA investment from the Niger Housing Bank, reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of its population, particularly its workforce.
Led by Minister of Urbanism and Housing, Mr. Salissou Sahirou Adamou, the project seeks to fulfill a program that was initiated in 2019.
With the joint efforts of national authorities, and the backing of the President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland and the Prime Minister, the construction phase is now underway.
The housing units, consisting of F2, F3, and F4 types, are being developed in collaboration with local Nigerien builders, offering affordable solutions to lower-income families.
Prices for these homes range from 7.995 million FCFA to 14.5 million FCFA, depending on the size and type.
This effort responds to the urgent need for decent housing for a large portion of the population, while also boosting the local economy through the involvement of Nigerien entrepreneurs.
The Niger Housing Bank plays a critical role in financing and implementing this program, showcasing its dedication to helping citizens become homeowners.
By committing to such infrastructure projects, the Nigerien government demonstrates its determination to improve living conditions across the country.
Affordable housing is seen as a key tool for promoting social stability and economic growth, and this initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce poverty and strengthen social cohesion.
Expanding this program nationwide will further enhance its positive effects.
In summary, the launch of these affordable homes is a commendable step that addresses a pressing issue in a growing nation.
It represents progress toward building a more equitable Niger, where all citizens can aspire to live in dignified housing.
