Togo establishes border Authority to strengthen national security

The Togolese government has taken a significant step in border management with the establishment of the Togolese Border Authority (ATF), approved during the Council of Ministers meeting on January 10 in Lomé. This strategic body consolidates existing mechanisms, unifying the commissions responsible for managing both maritime and land borders.

The move aims to streamline operations and enhance the effectiveness of border-related actions.

Following extensive deliberations, the ATF emerges as a central institution designed to support the government on national border issues and in resolving boundary disputes.

By centralizing expertise, the authority is expected to improve coordination, accelerate decision-making processes, and address contemporary challenges in border management more efficiently.

In a sub-regional context of heightened security concerns, the ATF will play a critical role in gathering and disseminating strategic intelligence.

Strengthened border surveillance and collaboration demonstrate Togo’s commitment to maintaining stability while fostering secure cross-border trade.

This initiative underscores the country’s proactive approach to addressing modern security and economic challenges.
