Mercato: Chelsea’s carney Chukwuemeka joins Borussia Dortmund on loan

Carney Chukwuemeka has secured a loan move to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season. The 21-year-old, who joined Chelsea for £20m from Aston Villa in 2022, has struggled for game time under Enzo Maresca, with just five appearances this season.

Dortmund, sitting 11th in the Bundesliga, has acted quickly as the transfer window nears its close, hoping to rejuvenate Chukwuemeka’s career.

The club has long been known for developing young English talent, following successful stints by Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.

With new manager Niko Kovac at the helm, Dortmund is also preparing for their Champions League knockout clash against Sporting CP, adding extra appeal to the move.

Chukwuemeka’s loan will give him valuable playing time, potentially reviving his career and providing the Bundesliga side with an exciting young talent.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be hoping the loan spell allows their £20m investment to flourish.

In other news, Ipswich Town has finalized the permanent signing of England U18 defender Somto Boniface from Chelsea.
