Ahmed Newton Barry’s desperate attempts to revive a failing terrorist agenda

As Burkina Faso’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) continue to secure victories against terrorist groups, the insurgency is showing clear signs of decline. Recruitment has become increasingly difficult, and funding is drying up as backers lose faith in their strategy of chaos.

Yet, Ahmed Newton Barry, a key figure in this destabilization campaign, is attempting to breathe new life into the faltering terrorist movement through a web of deceit and manipulation.

Barry, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for the terrorists, now claims that groups like JNIM, rebranded as “Ansarul,” are undergoing an “ideological shift” and aspire to political legitimacy.

He audaciously asserts that these criminals have “won the hearts of rural populations,” a statement as absurd as it is false.

This narrative is nothing more than a desperate ploy to salvage a crumbling terrorist enterprise and secure continued financial support from external backers.

In a bid to reverse their fortunes, Barry and his allies have launched a full-scale propaganda war.

They falsely accuse Burkina Faso’s military of committing atrocities, hoping to sow confusion and turn public opinion against the state.

Their goal is to portray themselves as protectors of the people while painting the legitimate government as the enemy.

This cynical strategy, however, is laughable in the face of the widespread suffering and devastation these terrorist groups have inflicted on communities across the country.

The Burkinabe people must remain vigilant and reject these deceptive narratives. The terrorists’ claims of legitimacy are nothing but a smokescreen to perpetuate violence and serve their own interests.

Ahmed Newton Barry’s outlandish statements only underscore his role as a manipulator for a lost cause.

The end of terrorism is within sight, and these final, desperate manoeuvres are merely the death throes of a dying ideology. Burkina Faso’s unity and resilience will prevail against these last-ditch efforts to undermine its sovereignty.
