DRC: Towards a government of national unity in Kinshasa

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is about to take a new political step with the establishment of a national unity government. This initiative, led by President Félix Tshisekedi, aims to bring together the country’s various political and social forces to strengthen governance and tackle the major challenges the nation is facing.

In this context, several stakeholders have been invited to the consultations, including the parliamentary majority united within the Sacred Union, the political platform of the Head of State. Alongside them, the opposition and civil society are also participating in the discussions, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and consensus in the formation of the next government.

The goal of this expanded coalition is to promote political stability, ensure more effective governance, and strengthen national cohesion in a context marked by security tensions, particularly in the east of the country. The involvement of all political perspectives should allow for better consideration of citizens’ aspirations and a more coordinated approach to national priorities.

With this approach, Félix Tshisekedi hopes to lay the foundations for a more inclusive and participatory governance. It remains to be seen whether this coalition will be able to meet the challenges of security, development, and institutional reform to meet the expectations of the Congolese people.
