Burkina Faso edges Cameroon 2-1 in thrilling U17 AFCON opener

Burkina Faso kicked off their U17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a narrow 2-1 victory over Cameroon at Casablanca’s Larbi Zaouli Stadium. The match’s standout moment came from 15-year-old sensation Ashraf Loukman Tapsoba, who scored a stunning opener—his second spectacular goal of the tournament.

Cameroon started aggressively, with David Yannick Bondoma testing Burkina Faso’s defense early (6’). However, Tapsoba broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, firing past goalkeeper Junior Lopez Abou after a clever assist from Issouf Junior Bara.

The Lionceaux responded with relentless pressure, but wayward finishing cost them. Missed headers (25’), off-target strikes (29’), and a near-miss (35’) kept Burkina Faso’s lead intact. The Burkinabé defense held firm, securing a crucial three points in Group A.

With this win, Les Étalons take a big step toward qualification, while Cameroon must regroup after an opening defeat. Tapsoba’s brilliance continues to shine, making him a player to watch in the tournam
