Malian Armed Forces neutralize terrorists in strategic operation near Tessalit

On the night of April 21-22, 2025, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) carried out a series of targeted operations against armed terrorist groups in the Talhandak region, 82 km northeast of Tessalit. The strategic military intervention, guided by precise intelligence and sustained aerial surveillance, resulted in the elimination of around fifteen terrorists and the destruction of multiple enemy logistical infrastructures.

This resounding success is not an isolated event. It is part of the new momentum driven by the Transitional President, Colonel Assimi Goïta, whose security vision is based on restoring Mali’s sovereignty and the dignity of the state.

Two days before this operation, the Superior Council of National Defense, convened under the leadership of Colonel Assimi Goïta, had outlined the framework for a “strong and respected” military—ready to defend territorial integrity without compromise.

The strikes in Talhandak are a direct result of this renewed strategy. They reflect the growing strength of a professional, disciplined army with a deep sense of duty.

General Sadio Camara was right to assert that the Malian Army of 2025 bears no resemblance to that of 2020: “Today, it is a sovereign force, rooted in patriotic values and fully committed to defending the people.”

This tactical victory is also a political one: it reinforces the legitimacy of the Transitional authorities, embodies the rejection of all foreign interference, and strengthens the vision of a Mali that stands tall, united, and in control of its own destiny.

Once again, President Assimi Goïta has demonstrated that under his leadership, Mali will yield neither to doubt nor to fear.
