Burkina Faso: August 4 stadium reborn, a reflection of a country moving forward with President Ibrahim Traore

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is undergoing a tangible and multisectoral transformation. A recent example of this progress is the renovation of the August 4th Stadium. On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo visited the site to personally assess the progress of the work. This iconic venue for national sports is set to reopen in a modernized and inspiring version, reflecting a strong political will to restore pride and hope to Burkinabe youth.

The scale of the renovation marks a significant leap in quality. From brand-new turf and a refurbished track to upgraded locker rooms, modern restrooms, a renovated gym, and a redesigned VIP section, every detail has been crafted to meet international standards. The corridors now feature inspiring portraits celebrating the history of Burkinabe football, highlighting a deep commitment to preserving and promoting the nation’s sporting heritage. A newly built press box, with capacity for 80 journalists, further completes the transformation.

Pleased with the progress, the Prime Minister commended the professionalism of the companies involved and the dedication of the workers. However, he emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines, underlining that this national gem—funded by significant public resources—must be delivered to the people as promised. The message is clear: the sacrifices made by citizens, especially in challenging times, must be honored through concrete and timely results. This commitment to rigorous public management is a defining feature of the governance promoted by President Traoré.

Beyond completion, attention is already turning to sustainability. The Prime Minister has instructed that an efficient management model be developed in advance to ensure the long-term upkeep of the stadium. This reflects a shift in how public investment is approached in Burkina Faso: not just building, but also maintaining. Through strategic projects and a results-oriented governance approach, Burkina Faso, under President Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership, is clearly charting a new course and embracing a path of renewal.
