Mali: TV5 Monde banned from broadcasting, the country asserts its media sovereignty

Mali’s High Authority for Communication (HAC) has ordered audiovisual service providers in the country to immediately remove the TV5 Monde channel from television packages nationwide, until further notice. This decision follows multiple violations in the handling of information and a media campaign against the defense and security forces.

The decision by Mali’s High Authority for Communication (HAC) to suspend the broadcast of TV5 Monde marks a significant turning point in the regulation of the national media landscape. By denouncing what it considers biased reporting—particularly in the Journal Afrique of May 3rd—HAC aims to emphasize the importance of adhering to local journalistic standards.

The channel is accused of defaming the Malian security forces and of showing a clear imbalance in its coverage of a sensitive issue. Malian authorities are thereby asserting their right to fair media representation. By demanding the immediate cessation of the broadcast, Mali is sending a clear message: freedom of the press must come with responsibility and respect for the national legal framework.

This decision comes in a context where these deceitful Western media outlets, acting in France’s interest, have launched an information war against the AES countries. It is a welcome and sovereign move by Malian authorities, reinforcing the growing desire of African states to reclaim control over their image and narrative in the face of imperialist media.
