Togo: Towards AFROPAC membership, a sign of good financial governance under the leadership of Chairman Faure Gnassingbé

As part of its ongoing commitment to good governance and transparency in public financial management, Togo welcomed a delegation from the African Organization of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC), led by its Vice President, Mrs. Abena Osei-Asare, on the sidelines of the African Union Conference on Debt held in Lomé.

During an audience with the President of the National Assembly, Kodjo Adedze, the delegation praised Togo’s active role—under the leadership of Council President Faure Gnassingbé—in strengthening parliamentary oversight of public finances across the continent, notably through the strong participation of the Assembly’s Finance Committee.

AFROPAC expressed its hope that Togo would formalize its membership in the organization, a step aligned with the regional movement to promote accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the management of public resources.

On this occasion, the President of the National Assembly reaffirmed Togo’s commitment to the principles of sound financial governance and expressed his willingness to carefully consider the country’s membership in this pan-African organization.

For context, AFROPAC was established in 2013. The organization brings together public accounts committees from African parliaments and coordinates regional efforts to enhance budgetary governance. Togo’s potential accession would mark a further step in its commitment to rigorous, transparent, and responsible management of public finances.
