Togo: Parliamentary digitization, a strategic step towards modern and inclusive governance in Togo

The process of modernizing public administration and state institutions is ongoing. The country has taken a new step forward with the project to digitize the National Assembly. With support announced by the United Nations System (UNS), parliamentary procedures will soon be digitalized to enhance legislative efficiency.

This initiative was at the center of a meeting between the President of the National Assembly, Kodjo Sevon-Tépé Adédzé, and the United Nations System’s Resident Coordinator, Coumba Sow. The approach is fully aligned with the government’s vision of a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered administration.

By rethinking parliamentary procedures in the digital age, Togo is demonstrating its commitment to adapting its institutional framework to the demands of the Fifth Republic. This digital shift, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), promises improved productivity for lawmakers, greater transparency, and stronger engagement with the population.

At the same time, a Youth Parliament project is currently in development, according to the President of the Assembly. This initiative reflects an inclusive ambition—to prepare a politically aware and committed new generation. This dual focus on technology and civic engagement positions Togo as a rising model of participatory and innovative governance in West Africa.
