Togo: TINGA takes rural electrification to a new level

In line with his commitments to building a modern, inclusive, and equitable Togo, the President of the Togolese Council, Faure Gnassingbé, continues to drive a profound transformation of the national energy sector. The recent rollout of the prepaid connection campaign financed by the TINGA Fund is part of this dynamic, strongly affirming a political will focused on social justice and sustainable development.

Launched in April 2022, this strategic measure aims to democratize access to electricity for rural and vulnerable populations by drastically reducing initial costs. From now on, any household located in an electrified area can benefit from a Lafia connection (2-wire or 4-wire) for a symbolic sum of 1,000 FCFA. This resolutely inclusive approach removes economic barriers to household electrification, thus ensuring that every citizen has the conditions needed to live with dignity, learn, produce, and receive care.

Under the leadership of the President of the Council, the electricity access rate has seen significant progress, rising from 50% in 2020 to 70% by the end of 2024, according to figures from the Ministry of Mines and Energy Resources. This remarkable leap attests to the relevance of a public policy focused on social impact and territorial equity.

Beyond the numbers, it is a human transformation that is taking place: children studying in better conditions, women developing income-generating activities, and health centers becoming better equipped. Electricity thus becomes a lever for empowerment, economic progress, and stability.

With a pan-African vision focused on resilience and energy sovereignty, Togo is entering a new era where every household—from the most remote village to the most populous city—can look forward to a brighter future.
