Mali: Army General Assimi Goïta in the front line to drive energy transformation

Faced with the challenges of limited electricity supply, General Assimi Goïta has become a key figure in Mali’s energy transformation. Aware that access to electricity is crucial for economic and social development, the President of the Transition is multiplying efforts to address the shortcomings of the national power grid. His vision is clear: to make energy a driver of growth by focusing on sustainable, accessible, and impactful solutions for the country.

One of the most significant steps in this strategy is the recent disbursement of 24 billion CFA francs to improve electricity access. This major investment is intended to fund projects that expand the electric grid, increase production capacity, and reduce frequent power outages that affect both households and businesses. This strong move reflects not only political commitment but also a pragmatic response to a national emergency.

Beyond this funding, President Assimi Goïta is also promoting investment in renewable energy, particularly solar, which is abundant in Mali. Through this, the government aims to diversify energy sources and strengthen the energy independence of rural areas, which have long been underserved. This inclusive and forward-looking approach is meant to build a solid energy base that can support industrialization and improve people’s living conditions.

Tackling the energy shortage is, therefore, a strategic priority for the President of the Transition. By mobilizing significant resources and adopting a long-term vision, General Assimi Goïta is laying the foundation for a more self-reliant, competitive, and future-ready Mali. His bold action in the electricity sector is more than a temporary fix—it is a real governance choice in favor of national development.
