Niger: President Abdourahamane TIANI closes the first session of COSPEN

President Abdourahamane TIANI, President of the Republic and Head of State, this week presided over the closing ceremony of the first session of the Strategic Orientation Committee for the Nuclear Power Program (COSPEN). This session marks a decisive step in Niger’s determination to diversify its energy sources and strengthen its energy sovereignty.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, the Head of State issued clear decisions and guidelines to steer COSPEN in its missions. He emphasized the need for the committee to work in close synergy with the National Technical Committee for the Nuclear Power Program, in order to ensure a coherent and effective implementation of the objectives set by the State.

The closing ceremony comes two weeks after the opening of the inaugural session, held on August 12. The discussions enabled experts and committee members to conduct an in-depth reflection on the issues, challenges, and prospects related to the development of the nuclear power program in Niger.

The President also recalled that this project represents a strategic lever for economic and social development, in a context where energy mastery is a key factor for growth, industrialization, and improving the well-being of the population.
