Burkina Faso: 2025 Agropastoral Campaign, Minister of State Ismaël Sombié congratulates Bougouriba livestock farmers for their resilience

During his visit to the Djôrô region on Friday, September 5, 2025, the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Ismaël Sombié, met with livestock farmers in Bougouriba Province as part of the monitoring of the 2025 agropastoral campaign.

The meeting allowed the minister to engage directly with stakeholders in the sector and present the range of measures already undertaken by the government to support and modernize livestock farming. These include the operationalization of the Faso Goulgo and Faso Kossam programs, the establishment of the Veterinary Medicine Purchasing Center (CAMVET), the introduction of more productive animal species, the development of pastoral areas, as well as the construction of modern slaughterhouses and pastoral boreholes.

These initiatives are designed not only to improve working conditions for livestock farmers but also to increase the sector’s productivity. The minister stressed the importance for local actors to take ownership of these measures in order to fully embrace a model of intensified and professional livestock farming, with better-structured and more sustainable production systems.

Praising the resilience and commitment of farmers in the face of numerous challenges, Ismaël Sombié encouraged them to remain united and mobilized to fully benefit from government support. According to him, their adaptability and perseverance are key assets in strengthening food security and driving local economic development.

Looking ahead, the minister announced a flagship project: the creation of a milk processing unit in the region. This infrastructure is expected to better meet the growing national demand for dairy products while adding value to local production and creating new economic opportunities for farmers and their families.

The minister’s tour reflects a strategy of proximity and dialogue, aimed at strengthening the partnership between the State and local actors—an essential condition for the success of the agropastoral campaign and the sustainable modernization of the sector.
