CAF Award nominees Hakimi on top as Morocco eyes dominance

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards, with Morocco positioned for a potential clean sweep following a historic year for its national teams.

For the prestigious African Player of the Year award, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi emerges as the clear frontrunner.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender is favoured after a stellar season where he won a historic quadruple, including the UEFA Champions League.

He faces strong competition from Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.

In the Interclub Player of the Year category, DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele is tipped for success. His decisive role in leading Egypt’s Pyramids FC to the CAF Champions League and Super Cup titles makes him a standout candidate.

Morocco’s national teams are expected to dominate other categories. After winning the U-17, U-23, CHAN, and groundbreaking FIFA U-20 World Cup titles, the nation is a heavy favourite for National Team of the Year, with its coaches also in strong contention for the coaching accolade.

The award ceremonies will be held in Morocco this December.
