Ghana Football Federation to honour Asamoah Gyan with testimonial match

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to host a testimonial match celebrating legendary striker Asamoah Gyan. The decision, confirmed on November 4, aims to honour the former Black Stars captain’s exceptional contributions to Ghanaian football.

Gyan, who retired in 2023, remains Ghana’s record goalscorer with 51 goals in 109 international appearances. The match will pay tribute to his distinguished career and service to the national team.

Black Stars Team Manager Ameenu Shardow praised the initiative, calling it “long overdue.” He emphasized that honoring national heroes not only shows appreciation but also inspires current and future players to give their best for the country.

Shardow particularly welcomed the GFA’s leadership in organizing the event, noting it shouldn’t be left to private individuals.

The testimonial is seen as a significant step in recognizing Ghana’s sporting legends and fostering a culture of appreciating national heroes.

Full details of the match, including date, venue, and participants, will be announced by the GFA in the coming weeks.
