U17 World Cup/ Burkina Faso’s young stallions charge into knockout stage

Burkina Faso has secured its place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, becoming the eighth African nation to advance. The Young Stallions sealed their progression with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Tajikistan in their final Group I match.

The decisive win, which earned Burkina Faso second place in the group with six points, was a tale of two halves. After a tense and goalless first period filled with missed chances and VAR interventions, the Burkinabe side displayed remarkable composure after the break.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 79th minute when Cherif Barro coolly converted a penalty, rewarding his team’s persistent offensive pressure.

As Tajikistan desperately sought an equalizer, Burkina Faso sealed the victory in stoppage time.

Eric Ouattara netted a clinical goal in the 92nd minute, capitalizing on a clever assist from Mohamed Zongo.

The result confirms a successful group stage campaign for the West African side, built on resilience, teamwork, and a flair for attacking football. They now look ahead to the knockout stages of the global tournament.
