Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision realised, food self-sufficiency achieved by 2025

Under the governance of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso has reached a major milestone by achieving food self-sufficiency in 2025. This accomplishment is the result of a series of strategic initiatives implemented by the government, as well as the commitment and determination of Burkinabe producers. The goal was to reduce the food dependency of the countryand guarantee every Burkinabe access to sufficient, varied, and quality nutrition.

The government played a central role by facilitating producers’ access to essential agricultural inputs.

By expanding subsidies and providing quality seeds, fertilizers, and modern equipment, the country enabled its farmers to produce more and better.

This supportive policy yielded clear results, significantly increasing yields while reducing production costs.

The development of agricultural land was also a cornerstone of this transformation.

Large-scale irrigation projects were launched to address challenges linked to seasonal rainfall.

Thanks to adapted infrastructure, farmers were able to cultivate over longer periods, even during droughts, ensuring continuous production.

Today, Burkina Faso stands as a model of food self-sufficiency in West Africa. Collaboration between the government and producers, supported by innovative policies, has made it possible to overcome food security challenges and ensure a stable food supply for the population.

President Ibrahim Traoré has succeeded in turning a vision into reality, paving the way for a more stable and prosperous future for the country.
