CAF conducts draw for CHAN 2025 Second qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) held the draw for the second round of CHAN 2025 qualifiers on Thursday, involving seven national teams vying for the final two spots in the tournament.

Initially reluctant to participate, these teams were persuaded by CAF to reconsider, giving them a chance to join the 17 already qualified for the finals, now rescheduled for August 2-30 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Algeria, the runner-up of the last edition, received a bye to the second round. Coached by Madjid Bougherra, the Desert Warriors will face the winner of the Gambia-Gabon clash, set for late February and early March.

The second round will take place in May, with the victors securing their place in the tournament.

The first round features a blockbuster matchup between South Africa and Egypt, two nations with rich domestic leagues but a history of underperforming in the CHAN. Another tie pits Comoros against Malawi, promising intense competition.

The CHAN, Africa’s premier tournament for home-based players, offers a platform for local talent to shine.

With Algeria exempted and high-stakes clashes ahead, the qualifiers promise drama and excitement as teams battle for a chance to compete on the continental stage. The road to CHAN 2025 is set to be fiercely contested, with pride and prestige on the line.
