Burkina Faso: Security reforms take center stage under Minister Mahamadou Sana’s leadership

In line with President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision to reclaim national territory and restore peace, the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, is spearheading a series of reforms aimed at strengthening internal security. On February 14, 2025, in Ouagadougou, Minister Sana chaired the first session of the Ministerial Sector Administrative Council (CASEM) for Security.

The meeting, attended by administrative authorities, partners, and security stakeholders, focused on the theme, “Dynamics of National Territory Reconquest: What Reforms for Internal Security?”

The session aimed to review the progress made in 2024 and outline key priorities for 2025.

Minister Sana highlighted the remarkable achievements of the security forces, noting a 92% execution rate of planned activities in 2024, reflecting significant strides in stabilizing the country.

For 2025, the focus will shift to consolidating these gains, particularly through the resettlement of displaced populations and the implementation of measures tailored to current challenges.

Participants conducted a thorough and candid assessment of the reforms, identifying both strengths and weaknesses to develop more effective strategies for enhanced security governance.

The CASEM session also outlined concrete reform proposals to improve coordination among security agencies and bolster the efficiency of territorial protection mechanisms.

With these strategic directions, the Ministry of Security aims to play a pivotal role in restoring national sovereignty and achieving lasting peace for Burkina Faso.

The reforms underscore the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges and ensuring a safer future for its citizens.
