President Boakai: Two years of transformation for Liberia

Since his inauguration on January 22, 2024, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has set himself an ambitious goal: transforming a country long weakened by decades of conflict and poor governance into a stable, reconciled nation resolutely turned toward the future. After two years dedicated to restoring order within institutions and rebuilding the country’s international credibility, his administration now enters a decisive phase: delivering concrete results for the population.

Driven by his ARREST program Agriculture, Roads, Rule of law, Education, Sanitation and health, and Tourism the head of state first focused on restoring economic fundamentals.

Results are beginning to materialize: 5.1% growth recorded in 2025, inflation brought down to 4%, its lowest level in twenty years compared to 10% at the start of his term, and exports up by more than 31%, reaching approximately $2.1 billion.

The country’s international reserves have also increased, rising from $475 million to $576 million.

This transformation extends beyond macroeconomic indicators. President Boakai has also undertaken modernization and transparency efforts, multiplying digital financial transactions and establishing new institutional anti-corruption tools: An Ombudsman’s Office, an asset recovery unit, and an ongoing process to establish a specialized court for economic and war crimes a highly sensitive matter in a country still marked by the memory of two civil wars.

It is precisely this dimension of national reconciliation that distinguishes Joseph Boakai’s approach: restoring the economy without ignoring the wounds of the past, by directly addressing transitional justice and institutional accountability.

A delicate equation that the head of state intends to resolve through method rather than haste.

Two years after taking office, Joseph Boakai’s Liberia has not yet completed its transformation, but the foundations of a breakaway governance built on economic rigor and reconciliatory justice now appear firmly established.
