Burkina Faso and Chad strengthen cultural ties Ahead of FESPACO 2025

On Friday, February 21, 2025, Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, welcomed a Chadian delegation led by Abakar Rozzi Teguil, Minister of Tourism Development, Culture, and Crafts. The meeting, attended by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Culture, Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, focused on Chad’s role as the guest of honor at the 29th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO).

Minister Teguil expressed his gratitude to the Burkinabe government for selecting Chad as the festival’s guest of honor.

“We extend our thanks to President Ibrahim Traoré, the government, and the people of Burkina Faso for their warm welcome and the excellent arrangements made for our stay. We are in great hands and commend the legendary hospitality of the Land of Honest People,” he stated.

He also confirmed the attendance of Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno at the opening ceremony on February 22, 2025.

Prime Minister Ouédraogo reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring a successful experience for Chad and all festival participants. This year’s FESPACO, themed “African Cinemas and Cultural Identities,” will showcase 235 selected films, highlighting the richness and diversity of African and diaspora cinema.

Among the competing films are two Chadian productions: DIYA by Achille Ronaimou and MADJBARA by Salma Khalil, both of which have garnered significant attention.

FESPACO 2025 promises to be a landmark cultural event, strengthening ties between Burkina Faso and Chad while providing a dynamic platform for African cinema.

With a robust Chadian delegation featuring filmmakers, traditional dance troupes, and government officials, this edition is set to be a vibrant celebration of African art and culture.
