Burkina Faso – Chad: A Renewed strategic partnership

The relationship between Burkina Faso and the Republic of Chad is entering a new phase under the leadership of Presidents Ibrahim Traoré and Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. Recent developments indicate a growing strategic rapprochement between the two Sahelian nations, which share common security and socio-economic challenges.

At the invitation of his Burkinabe counterpart, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno recently visited Ouagadougou to attend the opening ceremony of the 29th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), where Chad was the guest of honor.

This major cultural event provided an opportunity for high-level discussions between the two leaders and their delegations.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a shared commitment to deepening ties to better address their nations’ aspirations.

Given their similar security and economic realities, Burkina Faso and Chad aim to collaborate more closely to achieve mutual benefits.

To formalize this growing partnership, a joint commission will soon be established to structure and intensify cooperation efforts.

The clear objective set by both Ibrahim Traoré and Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno is to reinforce national sovereignty and ensure sustainable development for their countries.

This rapprochement could also pave the way for Chad’s deeper integration into the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), further strengthening regional unity and promoting a sovereign and self-reliant Africa.
