President Ibrahim Traoré launches “Faso Mêbo” initiative to transform Burkina Faso’s Road infrastructure

In a major step toward national development, President Ibrahim Traoré and his government have officially launched the “Faso Mêbo” initiative, a sweeping project aimed at modernizing Burkina Faso’s road network. On Thursday, March 27, the Head of State presided over the handover of new heavy-duty equipment, marking the operational phase of this ambitious plan approved by the Council of Ministers in October 2023.

The initiative focuses on expanding, rehabilitating, and paving thousands of kilometers of roads to enhance connectivity across the country.

Beyond easing the movement of people and goods, the project is expected to boost socioeconomic activities while providing critical logistical support to security forces in their ongoing efforts to reclaim and stabilize conflict-affected regions.

With counterterrorism operations reaching a decisive phase, well-maintained roads are seen as a strategic advantage for military mobility, allowing faster deployment and easier access to remote areas.

President Traoré emphasized that restoring national sovereignty requires not just military strength but also robust infrastructure.

“To support our troops in their mission, we must build more roads—enabling them to act swiftly and decisively,” he stated during the ceremony, which showcased 900 new pieces of road construction machinery.

The “Faso Mêbo” program sets an aggressive annual target of paving between 3,000 and 5,000 kilometers of roads, reflecting President Traoré’s commitment to long-term progress.

Additional phases of equipment procurement are already in the pipeline to ensure the initiative’s success, underscoring the government’s determination to deliver tangible improvements for the Burkinabe people.

This infrastructure push is more than an economic catalyst—it’s a lifeline for security, commerce, and national unity in a country striving for stability and growth.
