Burkina Faso launches Major Road Infrastructure Project under “Faso Mêbo” Initiative

In a significant move to accelerate national development, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has officially launched the first phase of the presidential “Faso Mêbo” initiative. On Thursday morning, the Head of State oversaw the handover of over 900 pieces of heavy machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, and dump trucks, marking a decisive step toward modernizing the country’s road network.

This landmark project, approved by the Council of Ministers in October 2024, aims to break the isolation of rural communities while boosting economic growth and national security.

With an estimated budget of 200 billion CFA francs, the initiative sets an ambitious target of paving 3,000 to 5,000 kilometers of roads annually—a critical effort to enhance connectivity across the country.

President Traoré emphasized that reliable road infrastructure is vital not only for military operations in the fight against terrorism but also for farmers, traders, and transporters who drive Burkina Faso’s economy.

“Efficient roads mean faster troop movements, better market access, and stronger economic integration,” he stated, underscoring the project’s dual role in security and development.

Managed by the National Bureau for Major Projects, the “Faso Mêbo” initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable urbanization and long-term socio-economic progress.

The President has issued strict directives to ensure swift and high-quality execution, signaling his administration’s resolve to deliver tangible improvements for the Burkinabe people.

As Burkina Faso enters a new era of infrastructure transformation, this project stands as a cornerstone of national resilience—bridging communities, securing territories, and paving the way for a more prosperous future.
