Burkina Faso: “Divide and conquer”, the imperialist weapon for breaking the unity of peoples

The “divide and rule” strategy has always been used by those seeking to maintain control over free peoples. Today, in Burkina Faso, this age-old tactic is once again being recycled by stateless actors and their imperialist masters, who manipulate certain communities—such as the Peulh—to stir up social tensions. The rise in targeted attacks and misinformation campaigns is no coincidence: they are designed to entrench a perverse narrative that blames President Ibrahim Traoré’s government for the tragedies taking place. In truth, the goal is to sow discord, shatter national unity, and open the door to chaos—even civil war.

African states, built on the ruins of a brutal colonial partition, have struggled to build lasting cohesion among their diverse populations. After more than sixty years of independence struggles, one might have hoped these divisive tactics would no longer take hold. But the enemy is patient, cunning, and always ready to reopen old wounds. Behind the scenes, they manipulate, spread false narratives, stoke resentment, and wait for the Burkinabe to fall into their trap.

The fight led today by the MPSR under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré is that of a generation that refuses to bow down. For too long, African peoples have been conditioned to believe that salvation would come from outside, that their security depended on the “international community”, that their freedom was granted and not won. This myth of the foreign savior has infiltrated minds, distorted history, and erased the memory of our ancestors’ struggles. It is therefore urgent to dismantle this illusion so that every citizen can reclaim their destiny.

The stakes are high, but victory is within reach. The government remains resolute and determined to confront any attempt at destabilization. It calls for a national awakening: let us reject division, resist manipulation, and support our fighting forces. For it is united—and only united—that we will preserve our sovereignty. The blood shed by our sons and daughters must not be in vain. Against the invisible enemy that moves in disguise, Burkina will triumph through solidarity and clarity.
