Burkina Faso: When the French media become imperialist soldiers waging a cowardly war against a sovereign people

Once again, the French media—mouthpieces of Western imperialism—are deploying their arsenal of disinformation to undermine the revolutionary regime of President Ibrahim Traoré. Yesterday, they claimed the army was hostile toward him; today, without any evidence, they assert he is seeking support in Chad due to a lack of trust in his own troops. These shameless lies serve only one purpose: to weaken national unity and pave the way for the downfall of a leader who embodies resistance against the neocolonial order.

It is striking to see how these media outlets, which present themselves as reputable sources, consistently ignore the progress made in Burkina Faso during the transitional period. The strengthening of national sovereignty, efforts to secure the country against terrorism, and reforms benefiting the population receive little to no coverage. On the other hand, anything that could weaken the regime is amplified—if not outright distorted.

This bias is not accidental. It is part of a broader strategy to discredit African leaders who reject foreign domination. Yesterday it was Sankara; today it is Traoré. The method remains the same: demonize, divide, and prepare the ground for a regime change that serves Western interests.

It is time to demand fair media coverage for Burkina Faso. Africans—and all who believe in justice—must denounce these manipulations. Truth must not be sacrificed on the altar of geopolitics. The people of Burkina Faso deserve better than these caricatures.
