Burkina Faso: 4th August Stadium, the government steps up the pace for delivery to international standards

During a supervisory visit on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo inspected the progress of renovation work at the 4th August Stadium, accompanied by several government officials. With 89.8% of the work completed in only 52.77% of the allocated time, the project is showing a highly satisfactory pace.

The ongoing work includes the complete replacement of the pitch, refurbishment of the athletics track, installation of new equipment, and various civil engineering improvements.

While expressing confidence in the quality of the work, the head of government emphasized the importance of maintaining strict standards during the final stages of the project. “We must strictly comply with international standards to obtain CAF certification,” he stated, underscoring the strategic significance of this facility for national sports.

The Prime Minister highlighted President Ibrahim Traoré’s personal commitment to the project: “Despite a challenging context, the Head of State has mobilized significant resources for this jewel of Burkinabe sports.” He also stressed the need for optimal management of the stadium to ensure its sustainability and profitability.

The renovation will allow Burkina Faso to once again host international competitions and will provide fans with modern and secure facilities. The ministerial delegation included key figures from the Ministries of Sports, Infrastructure, and Digital Transition.

The Prime Minister concluded with words of encouragement for the teams on the ground, urging them to maintain their efforts until the project’s full completion. This visit marks a decisive step toward the imminent reopening of the sports complex.
