Mali takes decisive step toward military sovereignty under President Goïta’s leadership

Under the leadership of Transitional President, His Excellency General Assimi Goïta, Mali has taken a historic step toward full sovereignty by announcing the creation of a national military industry. This landmark project, included in the 2025-2026 Government Action Program (PAG), demonstrates Mali’s clear commitment to reducing foreign dependence in defense and security matters.

Guided by a long-term strategic vision, this military industry will focus on local production of weapons, ammunition, and vehicles tailored to the operational needs of Mali’s Defense and Security Forces.

The initiative aims to establish autonomous production and supply capabilities through a robust, context-appropriate industrial base.

Reliable partners including Russia, Iran, and Turkey are supporting this transformative project by providing technological expertise, industrial know-how, and technical cooperation partnerships founded on mutual respect, concrete effectiveness, and shared interests.

Beyond strengthening national defense capabilities, the initiative will drive workforce training, research, technological innovation, and skilled job creation in this strategic sector.

It fully aligns with President Goïta’s national rebuilding agenda that prioritizes security, sovereignty, and industrial development as core national objectives.
