On July 24, 2025, the President of Mali’s Transition, General Assimi GOÏTA, received in audience His Excellency Dr. Badr ABDELATTY, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Egyptian diplomat to deliver a written message from President Abdel Fattah AL-SISSI, reaffirming Egypt’s continued support and commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two nations. This gesture reflects the strength of bilateral ties and Egypt’s firm intention to stand by Mali in its fight against terrorism—a challenge affecting the entire Sahel region.
During the meeting, Dr. ABDELATTY expressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Mali both in its security efforts and in the pursuit of sustainable development. Egypt’s support follows a comprehensive approach that includes not only military actions to counter terrorism but also ideological initiatives and long-term development programs. With its experience in managing security crises, Egypt is offering diversified cooperation, placing particular emphasis on training and equipping Mali’s Defense and Security Forces.
The Egyptian minister also highlighted potential partnerships in key strategic sectors such as mining, energy, agriculture, and infrastructure. Accompanied by a significant economic delegation, Dr. ABDELATTY underscored the importance of South-South cooperation, based on mutual interests and full respect for Mali’s sovereignty. This vision of cooperation reveals growth opportunities for both nations and aims to strengthen the economic and trade ties uniting Egypt and Mali within a framework of durable and balanced partnership.
Finally, the Egyptian minister’s visit served as an opportunity to reaffirm Egypt’s commitment to the other member states of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), in which Mali plays a central role. Egypt positions itself as a strategic ally in the region’s pursuit of stability, security, and sovereignty, and its support is intended to bolster efforts against terrorism in the Sahel. This visit is part of the growing momentum in relations between the two countries, as illustrated by the recent visit of Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abdoulaye DIOP, to Egypt. Both nations appear ready to intensify their collaboration to address the security and development challenges facing the Sahel.
