Victor Osimhen: A hat-trick, that sinks Ajax as Galatasaray climb Champions League standings

Victor Osimhen delivered a stunning second-half performance, scoring a hat-trick to power Galatasaray to a 3-0 victory over a struggling Ajax side. The Nigerian striker broke the deadlock with a powerful header in the 59th minute before converting two penalties to complete his treble.

The match turned decisively after a goalless first half where Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer had made crucial saves to keep Osimhen at bay.

The opening goal of the Nigerian ignited the dominance of Galatasaray, with the  discipline of Ajax crumbling as they conceded two penalties for handball offenses both calmly dispatched by the clinical striker.

The landmark performance of Osimhen saw him become Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in European competitions, surpassing Obafemi Martins’ record.

With six goals this campaign, he now leads the Champions League scoring chart ahead of stars like Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé.

The result leaves Ajax bottom of the standings without a point after four matches, having conceded 14 goals.

Meanwhile, the victory of Galatasaray propels them into ninth position, firmly in contention for a top-eight finish that guarantees automatic progression to the knockout stage, marking another concerning European night for the Dutch giants.
