DRC celebrates National Team’s World Cup triumph in Kinshasa homecoming

In a historic moment of national pride, the national football team of Democratic Republic of Congo, the Leopards, received a hero’s welcome in the capital following their qualification for the 2026 World Cup intercontinental playoffs. Their memorable victory against Nigeria was celebrated with massive public enthusiasm, reflecting President Félix Tshisekedi’s commitment to promoting excellence and national unity.

The President and First Lady Denise Nyakeru joined over 30,000 supporters at the Martyrs Stadium to honor the team, underscoring the  significance of the event as a symbol of collective achievement.

In his address, President Tshisekedi highlighted the importance of recognizing hard work and excellence, encouraging Congolese youth to strive for success in all fields, particularly through sports as a vehicle for discipline and self-improvement.

The players paraded through a 30-kilometer route from the airport to the stadium, greeted by cheering crowds who waited for hours to celebrate their champions.

The streets of Kinshasa echoed with patriotic songs and celebrations, embodying a spirit of national pride and the belief that the DRC can shine on the global stage.

This public display of support not only honored the team’s achievement but also reinforced social cohesion and perseverance as core values for the nation’s future.
