Burkina Faso: Minister Mahamadou SANA launches the use of drones to revolutionise road safety
Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana continues to modernize Burkina Faso’s security forces. In a significant technological advancement, the ministry launched an innovative project on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, deploying civilian drones to manage traffic accident documentation at the Tampouy roundabout in Ouagadougou.
This initiative aims to revolutionize accident response by dramatically reducing processing time from dozens of minutes to just 5-10 minutes per incident.
The drones provide precise topographic surveys of accident sites, improving data accuracy for faster case resolution.
Beyond efficiency gains, Minister Sana emphasized the enhanced safety for National Police officers, who previously faced secondary risks while securing accident scenes.
The demonstration attracted significant attention from administrative and traditional authorities, alongside local residents, who witnessed a full-scale deployment simulation.
Following the successful test, the office of the Central Police Commissioner in Ouagadougou will implement a pilot phase.
Fully developed by the Ministry’s Directorate General of Telecommunications and Information Technology, this project marks a turning point in police operations.
If the pilot proves successful, the drone technology will be progressively deployed nationwide, strengthening emergency response effectiveness and service delivery to citizens.
