Leicester City forward Stephy Mavididi has publicly shut down rumours of an imminent international switch to represent Congo DR. The 27-year-old, born in England, took to his Instagram story to directly address speculation that had been circulating since Wednesday.

The rumours originated from a report by Congolese television channel B-One TV, which claimed Mavididi was now open to playing for the Leopards through his family, especially with Congo DR nearing 2026 World Cup qualification.

In a clear rebuttal, Mavididi stated: “If it doesn’t come from me, then it isn’t true.” This firm denial puts to rest the speculation that he was reconsidering his international allegiance after having previously distanced himself from the Central African nation.

The striker, who has represented England at various youth levels but remains eligible for Congo DR through his heritage, has yet to make a senior international debut for any nation.

His definitive statement cools immediate expectations for a major recruitment boost for the Congolese national team as they continue their World Cup qualification campaign.

The situation highlights the ongoing tension between national federations seeking diaspora talent and players making deeply personal career decisions.
