Cycling/ Kigali to host 2025 Africa cycling excellence awards, highlighting continental talent
The African Cycling Confederation will hold its prestigious Continental Excellence Awards in Kigali on November 29, 2025, recognizing the continent’s top cyclists. Rwanda’s selection as host reinforces its emergence as a central hub for African cycling following this year’s UCI Road World Championships.
In the Men’s Elite category, Eritrea’s dominance continues with five nominations, including cycling superstar Biniam Girmay, who seeks his fifth title after previous wins in 2020-2022 and 2024.
He faces strong competition from Algeria’s Azzedine Lagab, South Africa’s Stefan De Bod, and Morocco’s Driss El Aboudani.
The Women’s Elite category features a clear frontrunner: Mauritius’s Kim Le Court, who made history in 2025 by becoming the first African woman to win a stage and wear the yellow jersey at the Tour de France Femmes.
Beyond the elite categories, the awards will honor amateur riders, emerging talents, and national teams, with Mali and Burkina Faso showing particular strength in the amateur ranks.
The ceremony underscores the growing autonomy of Africa in celebrating its cycling achievements and developing homegrown talent, with Eritrea maintaining its traditional dominance while nations like Algeria and Rwanda rapidly close the gap.
