AES: Art as a pillar of development and unity within the Confederation of Sahel States

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) places a strong emphasis on the development and fulfillment of the Sahelian peoples through a holistic approach that encompasses all areas, including culture, art, and identity. This commitment is perfectly illustrated by the 2nd College of Heads of State of the Confederation of Sahel States, which organized events celebrating the region’s cultural and artistic diversity.

The exhibition held on the sidelines of the opening ceremony is a striking example. The photographic and artistic exhibition at the Koulouba Palace showcased significant works by artist Pr Oumar Kamara KA, depicting the evolving role of women in Sahelian society.

These creations reflect the recognition and appreciation of women’s contributions in shaping Sahelian identity, notably through portraits of iconic figures such as the “Black Mona Lisas” and Malian female singers.

This artistic gesture goes beyond mere aesthetics, offering a philosophical reflection on the history and cultural values of the Sahelian peoples.

For instance, the portrait of Salif Keita highlights the richness of the musical heritage  of Mali and its influence across Africa.

In this way, culture becomes a vector for development nurturing bonds between peoples and affirming principles of sovereignty and unity.

Finally, the presentation of official portraits of the Sahelian Heads of State, created by the artist, underscores the recognition of these leaders’ essential role in regional unity.

This tribute highlights the importance of art as a means to strengthen cohesion and affirm shared values in the service of sustainable development and the flourishing of the Sahelian peoples.
