Togo takes part in the 50th International Francophone Press Union conference in Dakar

The 50th congress of the International Francophone Press Union (UPF) is taking place in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, starting from January 9. According to organizers, this edition will set a new horizon for the practice of journalism.

The proceedings, held under the theme «Media, Peace, Security», will provide an opportunity to define new perspectives for journalism «in a toxic information landscape dominated by manipulation and misinformation».

In a message just hours before the congress, President Macky Sall wrote, «Senegal wishes you a pleasant stay and fruitful exchanges around a burning theme: Media. Peace. Security».

For the Senegalese Head of State, who chairs the proceedings, «the media must, more than ever, hold high the torch that illuminates and guides humanity towards its best: peace and security, without which no sustainable progress is built».

The congress brings together journalists, editors, media executives, and experts from all Francophone countries to reflect, debate, and exchange ideas on the major issues affecting the development of their profession.

It will serve as a platform for reflection on the evolutions and transformations that are shaking the media world and, beyond that, society as a whole.

«Peace, the most vital asset for all, the best guarantee for a nation, is constantly threatened, with a significant role assigned to the media. It must be said aloud; the media have an obligation and a significant role to play in preserving peace and security,” stated Madiambal Diagne, International President of UPF.

Togo will be represented at the congress by its UPF branch, led by Vice-President Pierre-Claver Kuvo.
