Football/ Senegalese Football Federation in Financial Limbo despite historic success

Fresh from its Africa Cup of Nations victory and 2026 World Cup qualification, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) faces a cash-flow crisis, awaiting nearly €18 million in prize money from CAF and FIFA.

While the national team celebrates its triumphs, the federation’s new management inherited empty coffers.

To maintain operations, it has relied on approximately €915,000 generated from ticket sales and renegotiated partnerships for recent matches.

FSF President Abdoulaye Fall addressed the precarious situation, stating the interim funds have allowed for basic administrative functioning.

He emphasized the federation’s commitment to settling all obligations once the central payments arrive. ”

It was important for people to know we did not have sufficient resources to face all our activities,” Fall told reporters.

The awaited funds include roughly €8.2 million from FIFA for World Cup qualification and close to $10 million from CAF for winning the continental title.

The delayed payments highlight a stark contrast between on-field glory and the administrative challenges of sustaining a top-tier football nation
