Congo Brazzaville: H.E. Denis Sassou N’Guesso modernizes the strategic Pointe-Noire-Cabinda road to facilitate regional trade

President Denis Sassou Nguesso has launched construction work on a major upgrade to a critical road section linking Pointe-Noire to Cabinda. This strategic infrastructure project aims to significantly improve the movement of people and goods between the Republic of Congo, Brazzaville, and neighboring Angola.

The project involves reconfiguring a 15.4-kilometer stretch into a dual carriageway, extending from Angola’s Agostinho-Neto International Airport to the Djeno oil terminal.

The roadway will expand from 7 to 14 meters in width, doubling its capacity and enabling smoother traffic flow.

With a total cost of 42 billion FCFA (approximately $76.2 million USD), this large-scale undertaking is financed by oil companies operating on the Djeno platform through a strategic public-private partnership. Construction has been awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

This modernization addresses major economic challenges for the subregion. It will facilitate the transportation of petroleum products, stimulate cross-border trade, and strengthen regional integration between Congo and Angola, two key economic partners.

Beyond logistics, this infrastructure will help open up the areas it traverses and generate employment during the construction phase.

It aligns with the Congolese head of state’s vision to equip the country with modern road infrastructure capable of supporting economic development and the nation’s international openness.
