Burkina Faso invests over 5 billion FCFA in humanitarian fleet, marking historic turn for CONASUR

In an unprecedented move, Burkinabe Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo handed over a fleet of 64 heavy-duty vehicles to the National Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (CONASUR) on Tuesday, February 11, 2026. Valued at over 5 billion FCFA and fully funded by the national budget, the donation marks the largest single equipment allocation in the institution’s history.

Until now, CONASUR operated with fewer than ten aging trucks, struggling to deliver food, shelter, and supplies to crisis-affected areas in a timely manner.

The new fleet; comprising 38 forty-tonne trucks, 10 dump trucks, 10 ten-tonne vehicles, 2 tanker trucks, 2 crane trucks, and 2 flatbed trucks—radically transforms its operational capacity.

“This is a historic moment,” the Prime Minister stated, emphasizing that the acquisition represents a strategic shift toward national autonomy in humanitarian response.

No longer reliant on costly, often unavailable private rentals, the State can now deploy aid immediately, without intermediaries.

The vehicles are tailored for diverse emergencies: bulk transport to remote regions, infrastructure rehabilitation materials, potable water supply for internally displaced persons sites, and fleet maintenance. Each unit was selected for durability and operational readiness.

Beyond logistics, the investment sends a clear political signal: national solidarity is not a budgetary afterthought but a State priority.

With hundreds of thousands of internally displaced Burkinabe requiring regular assistance, this fleet ensures no community is left to fend for itself.

The Prime Minister confirmed further acquisitions are planned. But as of today, CONASUR rolls for the nation; 64 trucks delivering a response weighing over 5 billion FCFA.
