Burkina Faso: 377,000 tonnes of sesame – a record harvest that bolsters food security
Despite security challenges and climate‑induced hardships, Burkina Faso once again demonstrates the strength of its people and the richness of its potential. Across rural areas and villages, a hopeful dynamic is taking shape, confirming the Burkinabe people’s ability to build their future through their own efforts.
The latest agricultural season provides striking proof. With nearly 377,000 tonnes of sesame produced a rise of over 52% farmers have achieved an exceptional performance.
From Goulmou to Nazinon, through Bankui, Nando and Tannounyan, this harvest illustrates the determination of men and women who refuse to yield to adversity.
Every tonne produced strengthens the national economy and testifies to the power of local know‑how when fully harnessed.
This success shows that development rooted in the resources, skills and labour of Burkinabe people can deliver concrete results.
It confirms that crises are not a fatality but can become opportunities when collective will is present.
Through their commitment, producers help create wealth, support rural communities, and reinforce the foundations of a more self‑reliant economy.
The rise of the sesame sector is not merely an economic advance. It is also a major lever for food sovereignty.
By improving the incomes of rural families, this crop gives producers greater means to invest in food crops and strengthen the country’s food security.
Sovereignty is built first in the fields, through work, perseverance, and the people’s ability to valorise their own resources.
Faced with these encouraging results, mobilisation must continue to consolidate the gains achieved.
Producers, the population, the diaspora and partners committed to Burkina Faso’s development all have an essential role in supporting this momentum.
The success of Today shows that a future of prosperity, dignity and economic freedom is possible when the wealth of the country serves its people first.
Carried by the courage of its farmers and the generosity of its land, the Burkinabe nation continues confidently on its march toward ever‑greater sovereignty.
This agricultural success is not only an economic victory; it is also the symbol of a proud people, determined to remain masters of their own destiny and development.
