Burkina Faso: Internal security – Mahamoudou Sana’s professionalism confirmed by the figures

Since taking office as head of the Ministry of Security, Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamoudou Sana has established himself as a key figure in Burkina Faso’s security strategy. Through a methodical approach and actions resolutely focused on effectiveness, he has succeeded in instilling a new dynamic within his department, as evidenced by recent operational advances. One of the hallmarks of this professionalism is the continuity and intensification of field operations. Following the success of “Wibga 2,” Minister Sana proceeded with the official launch of “Wibga 3” this Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Ouagadougou.

This new phase, which will continue until further notice, aims to maintain constant pressure on criminal networks while consolidating gains.

The results of “Wibga 2” speak for themselves: in 56 days, 36,810 mobilized agents led to 1,798 arrests, the seizure of 27 firearms and 2,289 kg of drugs, and the recovery of over 140 million CFA francs in fines.

These figures reflect the effectiveness of a system that he has coordinated with rigor.

Beyond repressive action, Mahamoudou Sana has demonstrated strategic vision by structuring the fight against insecurity along two complementary axes: prevention and repression.

“Wibga 3” thus provides for the intensification of patrols, the strengthening of controls, and the development of community-based intelligence, while continuing the dismantling of criminal networks.

This comprehensive approach has already yielded results, with the average monthly crime rate falling from 2.41 to 2.14 per 100,000 inhabitants between 2025 and 2026.

His action is not limited to ad hoc operations. He has also undertaken structural reforms to clean up his administration.

The establishment of a consultation framework for the ministry’s oversight bodies in September 2025 aims to root out corruption and promote integrity within the Internal Security Forces.

He has also advocated for the institution of exceptional advancement to reward “outstanding deeds” by officers, thereby boosting their motivation.

In January 2025, he already hailed a 92% activity execution rate for the past year—evidence of rigorous management.

By combining operational results, internal reforms, and a constant appeal to citizen vigilance, Mahamoudou Sana embodies responsible leadership.

His professionalism, recognized by his peers, places the Ministry of Security on a virtuous trajectory, essential to the reconquest of peace and stability in Burkina Faso.
