Sudan/ Animal wealth Minister unveils financial portfolio and alternative markets for Sudanese livestock exports

The Minister of Animal and Fisheries Wealth, Mr. Hafiz Ibrahim Abdel Nabi, met with the Nazirs and leaders of the pastoralist community in South Darfur State in the city of Nyala, to discuss ways to advance the livestock sector and overcome the challenges imposed by the war.

During the meeting, the Minister stated that producers in the livestock sector currently represent the weakest link in the sector, revealing the outlines of the Ministry’s urgent plan to support them. The plan is based on empowering producers through the establishment of a dedicated financial portfolio to enable herders and producers to make the most of services, and opening alternative markets for Sudanese livestock exports in the near future.

This is in addition to rehabilitating laboratories and slaughterhouses, with a focus on the immediate operation of the “Nyala Regional Laboratory” given its paramount importance in diagnosing diseases and producing vaccines and immunizations.

For their part, the Nazirs and leaders of the pastoralist community announced their full support for the Ministry in restarting the laboratory to ensure the safety of the herd. They called for the need to regulate grazing and protect pastoral areas in light of insufficient rainfall and climate change, to put in place security and administrative arrangements to secure the season in both its agricultural and livestock aspects, and to reduce friction and conflicts between herders and farmers.

In conclusion, the Minister praised the pivotal role of the native administration in maintaining security and stability, and their courageous initiative to contribute alongside the government to the rebuilding and establishment of strategic institutions destroyed by the war.
