Burkina Faso/Counter-terrorism: Fighting forces congratulated, encouraged and urged to be professional

On Thursday, January 18, the Burkinabe military hierarchy engaged with personnel from the National Armed Forces (FAN), encompassing all categories and components, as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). The meeting aimed to assess the activities of the past year and outline new perspectives for 2024.

During this gathering, Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, commended and expressed gratitude to the combat forces for their efforts, dedication, and determination in the fight against terrorism and the reclamation of national territory.

As the war continues, and the Burkina Faso authorities aim to intensify efforts in 2024 to end terrorism in the country, the fighting forces were specifically urged to demonstrate more commitment, determination, and selflessness in counterattacks or territorial reclamation operations.

Considering recent events related to the destabilization plot in the country involving military personnel, the military hierarchy emphasized the importance of professionalism among the armed forces.

They cautioned against succumbing to the lure of easy gains, which has been identified as a factor fueling destabilization attempts during the transitional period.

The military personnel are called upon to act solely in the national interest, alongside the people, to achieve security objectives.

Close collaboration between the military and the VDP on the front lines is also encouraged to achieve more significant victories against terrorist groups.

The military leadership, in collaboration with the authorities, promises to do everything possible to further enhance the operational capabilities of the fighters.
