DRC: Towards the construction of a new international airport at N’djili

Construction and modernization of the new N’djili International Airport in Kinshasa are poised to begin in the coming days, following the green light from security services on Monday.

The meticulous plan by the Turkish firm underwent thorough scrutiny, with every detail examined and every aspect evaluated to ensure that the new terminal meets the highest international standards.

Marc Ekila, Minister of Transport and Communication, announced, «After a comprehensive review of this plan by various security services, including the Presidential Military Household, the Air Force, the Republican Guard, DEMIAP, and the Military Engineering Corps, all stakeholders have agreed to kick off the construction works for this pivotal infrastructure».

To execute the project seamlessly, the Turkish company plans to invest $1.2 billion over a two-year period.

Just days ago, the Transport Minister revealed that the immediate start of the works follows directives received from President Félix Tshisekedi during a Cabinet meeting.

During discussions at N’djili Airport among the Transport Minister, officials from the Airports Authority (RVA), and the Milvest firm representative, the blueprint for these cutting-edge facilities was unveiled.

It’s noteworthy that in February 2022, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the DRC as part of bilateral relations between Turkey and the DRC.

During his visit, Erdogan signed several agreements on security, defense, and infrastructure with the country.

One notable beneficiary of these agreements is the Turkish company Milvest, which secured a $290 million contract for the construction of Kinshasa’s financial center.
