Manchester United ends tough Premier League Season with win over Brighton but faces alarming goal difference

Manchester United concluded a challenging Premier League season with a victory against Brighton on Sunday, but they finished with a negative goal difference. This outcome is concerning for the Red Devils, who secured third place last year but have now dropped to a modest eighth position this season.

In their final match, United triumphed over Brighton, yet ended the season with a goal difference of -1—a scenario they hadn’t encountered since 1990 under Sir Alex Ferguson when they finished 13th.

Despite this, Erik ten Hag’s men ended the campaign on a high note with the win against the Seagulls.

Diogo Dalot opened the scoring in the second half with an assist from Casemiro, followed by a brilliant solo goal from Rasmus Hojlund.

United started the match with an unexpected attacking duo of Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay, before Hojlund and Marcus Rashford were brought on.

Manchester United now faces the possibility of missing out on European qualification for the first time in a decade.

To secure a spot in the Europa League, they must win the FA Cup final against Manchester City, which will take place next Saturday at Wembley.

Should Pep Guardiola’s team achieve the domestic double, Chelsea would qualify for the Europa League, and Newcastle for the Europa Conference League.

This season has highlighted the significant challenges facing Manchester United. Despite Erik ten Hag’s efforts to stabilize the team, their performances have been inconsistent.

The club will need to strengthen their squad and reassess their strategy to reclaim their position among the elite of English and European football.

The FA Cup final represents a last chance to salvage the season and restore hope to their supporters.
