Burkina Faso:   The gendarmerie and police are sharpening their weapons to meet the challenges of security

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – The Burkinabe police and gendarmerie are intensifying their efforts to tackle the country’s persistent terrorist threats.

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, a landmark meeting in Ouagadougou brought together key components of the Internal Security Forces (FSI) to devise a new strategy aligned with the evolving tactics of their adversaries.

This unprecedented gathering, dubbed “Return Experience (RETEX),” included representatives from the Directorate General of National Police, the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, the National Brigade of Firefighters, and the National Intelligence Agency (ANR).

The objective was to share experiences, draw lessons from both past successes and failures, and refine new ideas to enhance their collective security operations.

The RETEX meeting symbolizes a robust commitment by the security forces to protect the population and restore peace.

Confronting a formidable and insidious enemy requires the security forces to coordinate, share expertise, and bolster their operational capacities.

By uniting their efforts, these various entities create a formidable force capable of addressing the complex and evolving security challenges.

However, the battle against terrorism cannot be won by the security forces alone. It demands unwavering support from the entire Burkinabè population. Every citizen plays a crucial role in this fight for security and peace.

It is imperative for citizens to report any suspicious activities or relevant information to the authorities.

Additionally, the public is encouraged to continuously support and express gratitude towards the security forces for their dedication and sacrifices.

Terrorism is a scourge that threatens our peace and security. But with the determination of the security forces and the steadfast support of the entire population, this menace can be overcome.
